Product Description
Pitching the proper amount of healthy yeast cells is one of the most important things a brewer can do to improve his or her beer. Many yeast manufactures recommend only one vial or pack of their yeast for 5 gallons, but most professional brewers agree that the proper amount of yeast would be twice that. With this starter kit you can grow enough healthy yeast to produce 5 gallons of average gravity ales from one vial or pack of your favorite strain. Keep in mind that the higher the starting gravity, the more yeast cells required.
A 1.5-2 liter starter is sufficient for an average 5 gallon batch. Use 3.5 to 4 ounces of Dried Malt Extract per liter.
Starter kit comes with:
- 1 - Stir Plate 2000 and 2 Stir Bars
- 1 - 2000 ml Erlenmeyer Flask
- 1 - No. 10 Stopper
- 1 - 1 lb Bag of Light Dried Malt Extract
You can use an air lock when making a starter but during the beginning phase the stir plate is drawing in air as it spins the wort in the flask. Using a sanitary filter will allow oxygen in while keeping bacteria and wild yeast out.
